The final promo release of the manga adaptation arrived last Sunday during the Superbowl and fans have mixed reactions.
While the budgeted $200 million film has already raked in $32 million overseas, the general expectation is for low performance sales in the domestic box office.
The Good Part
One thing you can be sure to expect from a James Cameron (written and produced) film are fantastic visuals. With a passion project 20 years in the making, you can bet he’ll deliver. Twice the budget of any previous work from director Robert Rodriguez, this certainly has potential to be a staple given the edgy, yet child-like approach he takes toward his films.
As mixed as the early reviews seem to be thus far, one constant silver lining is the performance of Rosa Salazar. I, for one, am a big fan of her screen presence and could not be more excited for this amazing opportunity. As charming as she is talented, here’s hoping this is the career launch Rosa can use for a long and lucrative career.
‘Alita: Battle Angel’ also stars Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali, and Jennifer Connelly. The film opens in theaters February 14th.
