Con Resource Guide: AnimeNYC News Recap + 15 Awesome Cosplay Flicks!

The battle of the cons is over and for all you anime-lovers like myself, I’ll be glad to report that AnimeNYC this past weekend was a complete success!

With its third annual return to the Big Apple, AnimeNYC had cosplayers, fandoms, and panels come out in full force despite how freezing it was!

I always stress the point that AnimeNYC is really one for the fans. From cosplay photoshoot meetups for just about every fandoms throughout the weekend to special screenings, and huge guests like Mobile Suit Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino (who celebrated the declaration of “Gundam Day” here in NYC at the opening ceremony).

This year was no different proving to show that the Javitz center can indeed be the perfect con venue space without over-crowded show floors and panel lines! A con that focuses on bringing together the fans is a PLUS ULTRA con in my book!

So much Crunchyroll news!

  • The Anime Awards will be returning next year February 15, 2020 at the Crunchyroll HQ in San Francisco. Look out on their site because voting is supposed to open up early next year! Make sure your fave series takes home that win!

  • Food Wars documentary! Fans need to get ready because in late November, Crunchyroll will be premiering a behind-the-scenes documentary featuring the anime’s creators, following their very successful BTS doc with the creators of Dr. Stone.

  • NEW ENGLISH DUBS! Okay yes, I know most of us are Team Subbed but let’s face it, dubs are super important (and I’ll be talking more about that in an upcoming article soon). But in the meantime let’s be glad for these new English dubs coming to Crunchyroll soon:
    • Ascendance of a Bookworm
    • Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun
    • Magical Sempai
    • If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord
  • Makoto Shinkai has done it again following his beautiful last film “You Name.” His latest film had its east coast premiere this weekend on the last day and it was a great way to close off the con! No spoilers, scouts honor! Weathering You follows the story of Hodaka, a small island high school boy that runs away to Tokyo, meeting Hina, who can…you guessed it, control the weather! Amazing Storytelling mixed with absolutely breathtaking visuals, this movie tickles all five senses and takes us on a beautiful adventure. Just remember to keep your crying bucket close by!
