Gotta go fast!
Earlier today, Paramount Pictures dropped the first official trailer for the hotly anticipated “Sonic The Hedgehog” live action film. The past few months have been rife with debate and critiques of the titular hedgehog’s design, with many deeming the ultra-realistic personification of Sonic to be “creepy” and leaning towards the uncanny valley.
And while it can certainly be agreed that the studio’s decision to interpret Sonic as hyper-realistic instead of his trademark, cutesy persona is…interesting, one cannot deny that the story teased in this first trailer hints to be one full of laughs and good ol’ goofy campiness.
Sonic, voiced by Ben Schwartz, finds himself going up the evil Dr. Robotnik, played by the hilarious Jim Carrey. As the two go head to head in a familiar cat-mouse chase, it becomes obvious very early on that this newest iteration of the titular hedgehog will be one that does not take itself seriously at all.
And personally? We found ourselves having a few laughs while watching. If you’re a fan of Venom (which let’s be real, was not intended to be taken seriously at all) then we’re sure this new adaptation will grow on you— or at least become a new inside joke for you to meme!
Check out the trailer below, and see for yourself:
Sonic is directed by first timer Jeff Fowler, and will be hitting theaters everywhere on November 8, 2019.
