It’s been 14 years since we last saw The Incredibles. The wait was well worth it, the supers are back, kind of.
The Incredibles 2 picks up right where we last saw them, getting ready to throw down with a villain named The Underminer. I always wanted to know how that fight would turn out and I wasn’t disappointed. The aftermath of that fight however leaves our superheroes in a tougher spot with the world overall, so it doesn’t look good.
Luckily for our heroes they have people that want them back to take care of the bad guys. They want to accomplish this by showing the supers point of view, not just the aftermath. The best hero to do this is Elastigirl aka Mrs. Incredible.
Mr. Incredible had his shine in the first movie, so it was nice to see how a different hero does things. Where Mr. Incredible is pure brute force, Mrs. Incredible is the brains and she proves she can get it done. It really felt like a spy movie to a certain degree in how she went about saving people and solving crimes, it was a joy to watch.
The film does an amazing job in showing of the contrast between their methods and it is enjoyable. Since Mrs. Incredible is off trying to restore the name of supers, Mr. Incredible is at home taking care of the kids and he has his hands full. His daughter, Violet, has boy troubles. His son, Dash, is having homework trouble and the baby Jack Jack is awakening his powers, as in plural.
They’re all taking Mr. Incredible for a ride and it is pure enjoyment to watch him try to handle it delicately. Where the first movie felt like Mr. Incredible’s show, this movie showcases what else the family can do and more. You also see Frozone and Edna have some stand out moments in the film that really shows off their characters. The Incredibles 2 is an amazing movie, if you enjoyed the first one you will definitely love this one.
It gives you what you want from a superhero movie, the action, the danger, and suspense. Mix that with its animated, kid friendly, family movie vibes it’s the perfect dish.
